Thanksgiving Traditions

Every family has their own Thanksgiving traditions, growing up, one of my favorite traditions was watching the Macy's Day Parade. I love the fact that Macy's has shut down the streets of New York every Thanksgiving since 1924 (with the exception of 1942-44 when the Parade took a hiatus due to WWII.) In 1924 Macy's employees as well as animals from the Central Park Zoo were the main event, and in 1927 they introduced the helium filled balloons for the first time which they actually released at the end of the parade! As it turned out releasing the balloons into the Manhattan city skyline was not such a good idea... see the video fotage here. The Parade has come a long way since its debut in 1924 and I look forward to it every year.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
