Mixing vs. Matching

Crazy wallpaper, wild flooring, neon paint, and funky fabrics are normally not elements you think of in one room. While some might think these interiors are way over the top, they are proof you can't have too many colors or patterns in one space. Mom and I have always been a fan of mixing over matching, and although I probably will never have a room in my home this wild I can't help but smile when I see these amazing spaces.

Bathroom Renovations

Kitchen renovations are my favorite, but bathrooms come in a close second. Right now I have faucet toilet and sink ideas running through my head constantly, but that's probably because I am currently working on eight bathrooms remodels. Some bathrooms we chose oil rubbed bronze hardware, others in polished nickel, my all time personal favorite. I am not using a single fixture twice except for my go to, and I know it sounds weird but it's my favorite toilet, the Kohler Memoirs. With a gajillion pictures on Houzz and Pinterest it's easy to get carried away, I have clients who have brand new bathrooms and still get envious browsing the web looking at photos. The key is to pick timeless elements and mix them in with updated touches. I will never get tired of basketweave marble floors or white subway tile, two trends that were used fifty years ago but like pearls remain timeless. Polished nickel is still my favorite finish but oil rubbed bronze is growing on me, I hope when the Mr. and I become homeowners our house has two bathrooms so I can have both.

Dressing Room Decor

While we were in Chicago over the weekend my brother's fiance and I popped into Forever 21 to check out some costume jewelry. Three dollars for a cute pair of earrings is exciting, but what really blew me away was the dressing room! Seriously how cute are these doors!?! 

Friday Favs

A grouping of four upholstered club chairs is the perfect alternative to a sofa and two chairs. Personally I love this look, and while it may not be practical for a family room, for a formal living room, it totally works.

The Award Goes To...

I have completely sucked at blogging lately but between client projects, alternating days with Mom at the DC Design House, and other things (like finally filling out all the necessary paperwork to "officially" change my last name) I haven't had much spare time. Side note: if only changing your last name was as easy in real life as it is on Facebook, I did that from my phone on the way to the airport for our honeymoon. If it weren't for the Pinterest app on my iPhone I would be annoyed that I spent two precious hours yesterday at the Social Security Administration office. While scrolling through pins I noticed this one Ikea hack that had been re-posted a bunch and I thought A who has the time for that stuff, and B what a great idea! I am sooo not a fan of certain most DIY projects, which I will not mention, but if its going to cost you $10 and 5 hours to make something you could get at Target for $20, I just don't see the point. While Ikea hacks fall in the Do It Yourself category they are on a whole other level of geniusness. To me DIY things remind me of K Mart, where as Ikea hacks are totally Tarjay. I have always wanted to do a fun Ikea hack of some sort, especially after seeing hacks that deserve an award. If I were the national judge for the best Ikea hacks, the awards would go to the following...
