Life Lately

First of all I swear I am not quitting blogging. Even if I had 12 extra hours in the day I still wouldn't have been posting lately. In addition to normal client projects, I have been working on a new website. Mom and I have never really loved our site and updating it without our web guy is flipping impossible so I thought I would transfer it over to a format that will be easier for us (me) to update on our own. It turns out putting the whole thing together is not as easy as I thought it would be, if only websites were as easy to tweak as FB pages and blogs! I promise to get back into blogging soon, but for now here's whats been going on in our world.

remember when he could fit in here?

On a side note, the Mr's flip phone was on it's last leg so I went through it to see if there were any great photo's worth transferring. Thank the lord I did because I am so in love with these pictures of Henry and Hank. I can't believe they were taken with a $30 old school phone!

Pet's on Furniture, Do or Don't?

Monday's post about adorable Nursery's got me thinking about how the Mr. and I are completely not ready for kids right now. The main reason? He's a push over when it comes down to saying no to Hank. One of my favorite blogs Desire To Inspire, does a segment that features pets on furniture, which is adorable, but I am on the fence about the issue. My beloved Henry, who was positively perfect in every way, knew never to get on furniture except the bed; which the Mr. and I referred to as our "Time Share." The bed was Henry's from 8:00am to 9:00pm, obviously we were free to join him during those hours but only if it didn't disturb him. Hank on the other hand is one cheeky little monkey. All this kid wants to do is get on the furniture with us. There is one chair in particular which he thinks is his, it's like in the Flintstones when Fred throws his pet out the front door and he jumps back in through the window... The other night I made Hank get off the chair six times, until he decided that maybe sitting next to me on the sofa would be better. I'm trying to be firm, and it's hard to say no to that face, but it's even harder when your husband wont say no. Even the threat of me buying a new sofa, in the likely event that Hank ruins it, has not swayed his feelings on the topic. Then again if he knew how much the living room furniture cost he might agree, or kill me. So I can't decide, let Hank join us on the sofa, or splurge on a posh doggie bed and hope he stays on the floor?

A phone pic the Mr. sent me while I was at work to taunt me. Thats not an app to
make the image look vintage, he literally has an old school flip phone with gravel embedded in the lens.

Cute yes. Practical? Not so much. Who wants to come over for cocktails to sit in a dog chair?

My idea to remedy our situation...

Until we (I) figure it out, Hank will have to deal with Henry's spot...

Henry my love- we miss you buddy!

The Puppy Love Of My Life

I do not normally post about personal matters unless they are at least somewhat design related, but today's post is going to be an exception. On Monday evening while the Mr. and I were out on our evening stroll with Henry, in a matter of minutes he went from chasing his tennis ball to collapsing and taking his last breaths in our arms. The doctors think it was a brain aneurysm and he that he passed quickly without any suffering. While it is comforting for me to know he did not feel any pain, I find it difficult to get excited about anything, even the most amazing new issue of a favorite shelter mag. Obviously things will get back to normal sooner or later, but for now I am going to take a little break. To the puppy love of my life, Henry Long Legs McGee, I'll love you forever. Thank you for the best 7 years a girl could ever dream of

"To call him a dog hardly seems to do him justice, though in as much as he had four legs, a tail,
and barked, I admit he was, to all outward appearances. But to those who knew him well,
he was a perfect gentleman."

Mix and Chic Apartment Feature

Jessie from Mix and Chic featured our apartment on her lovely blog today! I am always in awe of Jessie and how frequent and detailed her posts are. As most bloggers know, it is not easy to produce daily content filled with gobs of eye candy and personal commentary that is fresh and new to your readers. The only theory I can come up with is that she must never sleep! Head on over to Mix and Chic to see the apartment, and while my fabulous Haute Indoor Couture followers will recognize the subtle changes in the pad, for those of you who are just stopping by, I thought I would share them with you.

The drapes here I love, but I ended up moving them into the Living Room add
a little color in there. The mix matched bed side tables drove me crazy which led
to my corbel night stand project

My Pottery Barn Peyton drapes from the Living Room have been repurposed
here after my seamstress added 24" of  Burlap to the bottom of each panel.
Small detail big impact.

Notice my two different drapery rods?? I waited for-ev-er for the second bamboo rod!
Also the new seat cushion on the sofa arrived a few months after this photo was taken.
Apartment wall color is Benjamin Moore White Ice OC 58

Personally I feel like the room is so much brighter after moving the
 shield into Henry's room.

Henry's Room when Henry isn't actually sleeping...

This is what the room usually looks like, and yes that is a sheet covering the sofa,
which is on top of a white cotton duck slip cover which protects the vintage 1930's
plaid sofa. The coffee table is courtesy of my Mama, best Christmas Present ever!

Thanks for featuring us Jessie!

Coming Up For Air!

I have been working on several client presentations over the past month, which all seem to be due at the same time. Whether or not I nail all the projects, my office assistant, slash bff, seems to be comfortable with my choices. There's nothing like snuggling up with client samples.

Friday Favs

My Friday Favorite feature before Christmas was of the fab Oly Pipa Cocktail table Mom gave me, today's Friday Fav is this gorgeous painting of Henry from my Mother in Law! She sent a picture of Henry from when he was a puppy to a local artist who created this adorable masterpiece.

I have two other paintings that I have yet to frame, and I don't really want to clutter up the walls in the apartment anyway, so I decided to create a few dresser vignettes with my unframed works of art. The colorful canvases propped on table tops, mixed in with books and pictures frames are the perfect pop in Henry's room.

Here are a few other examples of un-hung artwork vignettes from Lonny that make me smile

Happy Friday!!

It's A Small World After All

I will be the first one to admit that I have a slight obsession with Pinterest, and my 1,429 pins are living proof. Yesterday when I was on re-pinning other peoples fabulous photo's I saw a very familiar image... It was a picture of MY Henry! My little man (the yellow pup on the far left) is famous, the picture has been re-pined 799 times as of this morning. The original photo can be found on Henry's breeders website here

If Henry knew I was blogging about this he would be mortified,
apparently it was an embarrassing photo shoot ;-)

It's so funny to think he was small enough to hang on a clothesline and small enough to be my carry on luggage from Montana to DC. Henry is definitely not a 15 pound ball of fur anymore, as you can see from my Blogger profile picture, but luckily for him the Mr. and I are renting a two bedroom apartment.   Today I thought I would share pictures with you of Henry's room, aka the spare bedroom.

98% of the time there is a white slipcover on the sofa because it's Henry's bed.

The End of Summer

It might be the fact that I am on a permanent honeymoon or the fact that weeks seem to be going by faster than ever lately, but I am still having a hard time dealing with the fact that today is Labor Day. Since I'm not a fan of itchy sweaters or non stop football I have to remind myself that Fall is not so bad.

We will finally be able to sleep with our windows open

Cooler temperatures mean I will get to christen our new Le Creuset from Aunt Jess

Eating outside without mosquitoes devouring my legs will be pure bliss

architectural digets

I can break out the throw blankets for movie nights.

elements of style

Goodbye dirty flip flop feet, welcome back boots

And best of all- getting cozy with my boys.

Happy Labor Day!
